A developmental edit is a deep, big-picture look at your manuscript, focusing on structure, pacing, character development, and overall flow.
It’s where the story comes into sharper focus. Where what’s working is strengthened, and what isn’t quite landing yet is thoughtfully reshaped. Whether you’re planning to self-publish or pursue traditional publishing, this stage helps you move forward with a manuscript that feels clear, cohesive, and fully realized. My approach is thoughtful and collaborative, with feedback tailored to your voice and vision, so you’re not just revising, you’re revising with intention.
What is Developmental Editing?
Developmental editing takes a close look at both the big picture and the scene-level details of your manuscript, identifying what’s working, what’s not quite landing yet, and where your story has the potential to go further.
I’ll highlight key strengths and areas for improvement, offering clear, in-line feedback to guide you through revision with intention and confidence.

The Editing Process
01.
A First Look
I start with a sample edit (up to 1,000 words) to get a feel for your voice, and to make sure we’re the right fit for each other.
02.
Let’s Talk It Through
We connect to talk through your sample edit, your goals, and what your manuscript needs next. You’ll receive a custom proposal with clear next steps.
03.
The Deep Work
This is where I step into your manuscript. Reading closely, editing thoughtfully, and leaving detailed, actionable feedback along the way.
04.
Delivery Day!
You receive your edited manuscript along with my notes, and we reconnect for a post-edit conversation to talk through revisions and next steps.
