What is a Manuscript Evaluation?
A lighter service than a Developmental Edit
A manuscript evaluation focuses on what's working within your story while providing areas for improvement. It includes a shorter editorial letter than a full developmental edit, but provides actionable feedback and a clear roadmap for your next round of revisions. I will read your manuscript and give you an idea of what you're doing well and how you can improve.
Big Picture Story Structure, Character Development & More!
For writers seeking feedback on their story’s potential, a manuscript evaluation is perfect. This less intensive edit suits projects with limited budgets or those new to receiving editorial feedback. I do a single read through of your manuscript, leaving comments from a writer’s perspective and questions from a reader’s perspective.
I’ll identify three major strengths and three areas for improvement for your manuscript. These focus on the big picture of your story while focusing on the overall structure. At the end, you'll have the opportunity to ask me questions for up to 30 days.
Manuscript Evaluation
A manuscript evaluation is ideal for writers who want professional feedback on their story without investing in a full developmental edit.
I read your manuscript from both an editor's and a reader's perspective, identifying what's working well and where the greatest opportunities for improvement exist. Rather than providing extensive developmental notes, I focus on the most impactful revisions that will strengthen your story as a whole.
This service is particularly helpful for authors who are preparing for revisions, considering developmental editing, or seeking objective feedback before querying agents or self-publishing.
Includes:
One full read of your manuscript
Editorial report highlighting strengths and opportunities
Feedback on plot, pacing, structure, and character development
In-line comments throughout the manuscript
Three key strengths and three primary revision priorities
PRICE: $350 flat rate (up to 85,000 words)
If you decide to move forward with Developmental Editing or Line Editing within 12 months, the $350 evaluation fee will be credited toward your next service.
The Editing Process
01.
A First Look
I start with a sample edit (up to 1,000 words) to get a feel for your voice, and to make sure we’re the right fit for each other.
02.
Let’s Talk It Through
We connect to talk through your sample edit, your goals, and what your manuscript needs next. You’ll receive a custom proposal with clear next steps.
03.
The Deep Work
This is where I step into your manuscript. Reading closely, editing thoughtfully, and leaving detailed, actionable feedback along the way.
04.
Delivery Day!
You receive your edited manuscript along with my notes, and we reconnect for a post-edit conversation to talk through revisions and next steps.
Have a question or just want to say hello? The best way to reach me is by either filling out the form below or sending an e-mail to danielle@daniellewraith.com. If you have filled out the form and haven’t heard from me in a few days, please email me directly.
